All about pressure reducing valves, PRVs, pressure reduction valves and pressure regulating valves.
Pressure reducing valves, sometimes called PRVs, pressure reduction valves or pressure regulating valves, help control the water pressure in your home.
PRVs are usually located on the main waterline coming into your home. This simple bell shaped device assures the water pressure that reaches your plumbing fixtures stays under the state mandated code limit of 80 psi.
Excessive water pressure can damage your plumbing fixtures and ruin the internal parts of your water heater. Whistling or singing pipes are a tell-tale sign of high pressure. Leaking or dripping faucets, running toilets, water heater's T&P leaking can also be the result damage from of excessive water pressure. Continued failure can ultimately result in burst water pipes and flooding of your home.
If you are experiencing any of these warning signs, have a pressure reading of 70 psi or higher or suspect your pressure reducing valve has failed, contact My Georgia Plumber at (770) 592-0081 to install a new PRV. If you don’t know how to take a pressure reading, just call us. We will be happy to do it for you as part of our whole house plumbing inspection.
